The Clinician Behind the Culture: Meet Dr Ravi Solanki

Most dentists go straight from university into general practice. Ravi did not. Three years across some of the country's leading dental hospitals shaped a clinician whose breadth and depth of experience is genuinely unusual in a practice like this.

Who is Dr Ravi Solanki?

The majority of dentists in general practice qualified and moved directly into a surgery. Ravi took a different path. After completing his BDS at the University of Sheffield in 2002, he spent three years as a House Officer and Senior House Officer across three of the country's leading dental hospitals: Cardiff Dental Hospital, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Birmingham Dental Hospital.

That is not a small distinction. Hospital dentistry is a different clinical world. The cases are more complex, the environments more demanding, and the range of specialties you are exposed to is far broader than anything you encounter in general practice. Ravi trained across four distinct specialties during those years, each of which left a mark on the way he works today.

🦷

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Surgical training involving the mouth, jaw, and face. This foundation underpins the oral surgery and implant work Ravi carries out in general practice today, where complexity is handled in-house rather than referred on.

🔬

Restorative Dentistry

Specialist hospital-level training in restoring teeth to full function and appearance. The precision required at that level informs every crown, bridge, and complex restorative case Ravi takes on.

👶

Paediatric Dentistry

Working with younger patients at Birmingham Children's Hospital developed the patience, communication, and adaptability that define Ravi's approach with every patient, regardless of age or circumstance.

😴

Conscious Sedation

Clinical training in sedation techniques at hospital level. A skill that remains relevant in general practice and reflects a genuine understanding of how to manage patient comfort in complex situations.

In 2005 he completed the Membership of the Fellowship of Dental Surgeons at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, one of the most demanding postgraduate qualifications in UK dentistry. Then he came back to general practice and built New Road Dental. The hospital years are not a footnote in his biography. They are the reason the practice is what it is.

His Clinical Work at New Road Dental

What the hospital years produced, practically speaking, is a clinician who can handle complexity that most practices refer out. Ravi places dental implants, carries out oral surgery, and manages restorative cases involving crowns and bridges at a level that reflects his surgical and restorative hospital training. Patients who come to him with a specific problem rarely leave with a referral letter. That matters to people who want their care managed in one place, by someone who knows their full picture.

His cosmetic work, spanning teeth whitening, composite veneers, and full smile makeovers, is driven by the same principle: understand what the patient actually wants before deciding what to recommend. He is a provider of Invisalign and Fastbraces Technology, and completed a Diploma in Aligner Mastery in 2023 to ensure his orthodontic work reflects current best practice. For patients with specific requirements around their appointment, just mention it when you book and the team will ensure everything is in place.

My goal with every patient is the same: to understand what matters to them and then use every skill I have to get them there.

Training the Next Generation

Ravi is an approved Foundation Dentist Trainer with the West Midlands Deanery. That deserves more than a line, because it is not a title that comes easily. The Deanery assesses both the individual clinician and the practice environment before approving a trainer. Being on that list means New Road Dental has been formally judged as a clinical environment of sufficient quality to shape newly qualified dentists at the start of their careers.

His Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, completed in 2013, means his approach to training is structured and considered, not simply a passing on of habits. The dentists who come through New Road Dental learn from someone who has trained across some of the most demanding hospital environments in the country, who holds one of dentistry's most respected postgraduate qualifications, and who has spent twenty years building a practice around the belief that clinical standards and patient experience are inseparable.

That belief is the culture of New Road Dental. Ravi built it. The Foundation Training approval is evidence that it is real.

The Practice He Has Built

New Road Dental is a family practice. Ravi co-founded it with his brother Pritesh, and the two of them have shaped it into one of the most respected practices across Worcestershire. As Clinical Director, Ravi sets the standard for how care is delivered here, and that standard is visible in everything from the team he has assembled to the treatments the practice is able to offer in-house. You can meet the full team on the website.

Patients come to New Road Dental from across the region, and many of them come specifically because of what Ravi's background makes possible. Complex implant cases. Orthodontic treatment delivered by a clinician with a formal Diploma. A practice good enough to train Foundation Dentists in. These are not things every dental practice in Bromsgrove can offer, and they are not accidents. They are the direct result of a clinician who set out to build something worth coming to.
