Preventative Dentistry

We all understand the importance of brushing our teeth regularly, but are we doing it right? Perfecting your brushing technique will put you on the right path to achieving and maintaining good oral health. Small changes made when adopting a thorough cleaning technique into our daily lives will contribute to the prevention of dental complications in the future.  Our team of experienced dentists have undergone hundreds of hours of training and professional development to be able to share knowledge with you that may just be the difference between keeping or losing your teeth as you grow older.

Dental Hygienist

The importance of a dental hygienist can sometimes be overlooked despite being one of the easiest ways to reduce your chances of future dental problems. A dental hygienist works to ensure that your gums and tissues remain healthy, and continue to provide a solid and supportive foundation for your teeth.

What can I expect from my first hygiene appointment?
Our dental hygiene team are both highly skilled and experienced and therefore will provide you with a high quality experience; we can guarantee you’ll be able to tell the difference when you leave New Road Dental. In your first appointment, your hygienist will make a full assessment of your dental health and check to see if there are any early warning signs or areas of concern which need attention. Taking these results into consideration, you will be taught a variety of brushing and cleaning techniques which can be adopted into your home dental routine. A small change in the way you brush your teeth could be the difference between keeping teeth and losing them in the future, so this information is priceless.

What are the effects of bad oral hygiene?
Although it may not be as serious losing teeth, bad oral hygiene can lead to a significant amount of inconvenience or embarrassment due to the following:

  • Build up of plaque and bacteria
  • Persistent bad breath or halitosis
  • Swollen, red, tender or bleeding gums
  • Receeding gums
  • Loose teeth

We recommend regular hygiene appointments and would urge those who have not attended a session for over a year to call the practice to arrange a suitable time to visit.
